Welcome to our church

Welcome to the official website of First Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

The Sunday Divine Service is at 10:45 a.m. We are located at 1649 W. Le Moyne Street in the East Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. We invite you to explore this website and learn more about how we worship, study the Scriptures, serve the community, and build strong disciples amid a skeptical world. NOTE: IN-PERSON SERVICES HAVE RESUMED, BUT A NUMBER OF PEOPLE CANNOT COME OUT BECAUSE THEY ARE ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE TO THE CORONAVIRUS. WE CONTINUE TO RECORD THE SERVICE OF THE WORD IN ADVANCE FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND AND TO POST AN AUDIO AND VIDEO EACH WEEK, ALONG WITH A PRINTED ORDER OF SERVICE. HERE ARE THE WORSHIP SERVICES FOR THE FOUR MOST RECENT SUNDAYS:

Our regularly scheduled activities are as followed:

  • Sunday Bible Class, 9:30 a.m. (In person in the air-conditioned church basement or via Zoom–join in whichever way is most convenient)
  • Sunday Divine Service of the Word (Pre-recorded and posted online to be viewed anytime)
  • Sunday Divine Service with Holy Communion, 10:45 a.m. (In person–in the air-conditioned church basement)
  • Wednesday Food Pantry, 10 a.m. to 12 noon
  • Wednesday Bible class, 6:00 p.m. (In person in the air-conditioned church basement or via Zoom–join in whichever way is most convenient)
  • Generations (a program of young people serving senior citizens), 2nd Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (offsite; on hold until the coronavirus situation is over)

Look at the “About Us” tab to learn more about our beliefs, our denominational affiliation, our history, and our unique mission. Look at the “Worship” tab to learn more about our Sunday worship service and other services, as well as our style of worship and the reasons for it. Look at the “Bible Study and Fellowship” tab to learn more about the opportunities to grow in God’s Word. You’ll find daily Scripture readings as well as times for group Bible study. Look at the “Service to the Community” tab to find out more about our weekly food pantry, our monthly Generations program (an outreach of young adults to senior citizens), and other ways in which we participate in the community life.
